Ravenswood was established in 1868 as a commuter suburb, when the Ravenswood Land Company purchased 194 acres of farmland and woods roughly eight miles north of downtown Chicago. Despite local legend, the name has nothing to do with birds. It came from a Land Company member who had previously lived in an eastern town of the same name.
The neighborhood is home to two designated historic districts, the East Ravenswood Historic District and the Ravenswood Manor Historic District, and the old J.C. Deagan Company factory tower still stands as a landmark of the area's industrial past.
Ravenswood Manor is known for its single-family homes, while other parts of the neighborhood offer loft-style condo conversions from the area's former industrial buildings, giving buyers a real choice between a detached home and a condo.
The neighborhood is served by the CTA Brown Line and the Union Pacific North Line Metra, which runs along Ravenswood Avenue, giving residents two separate rail options into downtown.
Ask Michael for current inventory and pricing. Ravenswood Manor and the areas closer to the rail corridor have distinct housing stock and pricing, and a direct conversation will get you a sharper answer than a page of static numbers.
The old manufacturing corridor along the rail line has been repurposed over the past few decades into a mix of local businesses and creative office space, giving the neighborhood a walkable commercial strip alongside its residential streets.
